Friday wip and Strawberry pie

I'm model stitching again but took a brief break to start stitching LHN's All is Calm as my monthly ornament.

I recently saw a recipe online of a strawberry crumb pie so tried it last weekend.  I usually don't bake this time of year because it's too hot to turn on the oven but I baked this in the toaster oven so it didn't get the whole house hot.

  It was really good!  ..especially with a little ice cream on top.  I sent some to the neighbors so they could help us eat it and they liked it too.

Another Model Released....LHN "Robin's Song"

It's always so fun on "release day" seeing the model released.  Diane at Little House Needleworks released a model I stitched for her, "Robin's Song" along with 2 others (that I didn't model stitch)--"Old Glory" and the July Calendar Girl.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's!

To celebrate Father's Day, he grilled out steaks and potato coins and I steamed broccoli for our dinner tonight.  I also tried a Martha Stewart recipe for dessert:  Blueberry and Buttermilk Tart.

I don't have a square tart pan that size so I made it in a round one.

It's really good but DH and I both agree that we'd rather have a plain custard than the buttermilk filling.  We both loved the ground almonds that were worked into the crust.  Since there's lemon in the filling and lemon goes so well with blueberries, I thought a garnish of lemon zest would be nice.


We're both stuffed now and I'm looking forward to some stitching time on the couch.

I have another model coming next week.

It's getting really hot and humid here in SE TX.  I work up quite a sweat from my morning walks.  I'm starting to increase my distance to 3 miles and hoping my plantar faciitis doesn't complain too much.  I feel better already (except for me heel) walking a little further.

I usually buy a few hanging flower baskets in the spring.  For some reason this year, I'm late buying them.  One day as I was walking into Walmart, I saw some sad-looking ones that weren't in a hopeless state yet so I brought a couple of them home.  (about $3.50 each!  Who says procrastination is always a bad thing?)  After some TLC deadheading them and watering them, they're not doing too badly.  So I went back to their plant section and picked up some more.  I'm calling them my "rescued" flowers.  Hopefully I won't kill them;  I don't exactly have a green thumb.

DH leaves today for a conference for work.  After I get some things accomplished here, I'm planning on a few days spent as a couch potato, stitching, reading, and watching chick flicks.
